She Trusted the Wrong Savior, So I Became the One She Lost
After my wife and I decided to be child-free, she had been away on a business trip for a year. One day, I received an anonymous package containing intimate photos of her and her assistant.
She was sitting on her assistant's lap, holding a baby as she breastfed and smiling with such tenderness in the photo.
My mother and I were thunderstruck, standing frozen for a long time. Once we regained our senses, we followed the address written on the back of the photo to confront my wife. To our astonishment, when we found her, she was celebrating the assistant's child's one-month birthday party.
My mother, filled with rage and heartbreak, rushed forward. "Yvonne, why did you hide this from Mark and me? How could you have a child with another man in a different city? You are my daughter-in-law!"
Before my mother could reach her, the assistant stepped forward and slapped my mother to the ground. "Where did this crazy woman come from? How dare you slander my wife by claiming she's your daughter-in-law?"
I quickly helped my mother up and glared at my wife with fury. "Alright, Yvonne, why don't you tell everyone that I'm just some 'other man'?"
Unexpectedly, to protect her assistant, she splashed wine straight onto my face.
"Yes," she sneered. "If you wanted to hit on me, you should have looked in a mirror first to see what kind of pathetic loser you are."
In her desperation to prove we were strangers, Yvonne went as far as throwing a wine glass at my head, but it unexpectedly struck my face instead.
The glass shards cut my cheek and bright red blood trailed down, staining my clothes. In that moment, my heart felt as if it were being cruelly squeezed, making it hard even to breathe.
Yvonne also froze for a second, a flicker of heartache flashing through her pupils. I said nothing, just looked at her with pained eyes.
Her hands clenched tightly, then loosened, only to clench again.
Finally, she made her decision. Turning coldly, she embraced Corey Levinson and kissed him. "Darling, don't waste your anger on a bumpkin. Today is our son's first-month celebration. We should be happy, understand?"
Corey shot me a challenging look, then deepened the kiss, not releasing Yvonne until she was nearly breathless.?
My mother looked at her daughter-in-law in disbelief, tears welling in her eyes. Before she could say anything, the guests attending the one-month banquet began pointing at us, mother and son, hurling insults, ridicule and even curses.
"Tsk! Look at this loser trying to aim for the stars. Why don't you check yourself and your pathetic reputation before you have the nerve to barge in here and start trouble?"
"He probably wanted to be a boy toy, thinking that if he hooked up with Mrs. Stanfield, he could lie flat for the rest of his life."
"The most shameless one is his mother. Tck! Her son is ignorant and instead of stopping him, she joins in saying Mrs. Stanfield is her daughter-in-law."
Hearing this, my mother roared, "My son isn't a boy toy! They're a legally married couple! Yvonne, today I demand an explanation from you and my son "
Yvonne turned around, glaring at my mother. "An explanation? I only let your son work at my company because I felt sorry for him since he came from the countryside. I didn't expect you bunch of country bumpkins to be so blind to your place, thinking I'm interested in your son and trying to cling to me."
As soon as these words were spoken, the entire room gasped. Someone, sympathizing with Yvonne, kicked my mother to the ground. I was already heartbroken by what I saw, but I never imagined my mother would be dragged into this and suffer.
I quickly went over and blocked the second foot that was about to kick my mother, staring angrily as I flung the person away.
My mother lay on the ground, overwhelmed with grief. "Mark, I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I was the one who introduced you to her and brought you together. I never thought Yvonne would be this kind of woman. I'm so sorry. It was your mother who ruined your entire life."
I was ready to walk over and help my mother up, to tell her I never blamed herthat fate plays cruel tricks and when someone wants to be unfaithful, there's simply no stopping them.
But before I could reach her, someone kicked me from behind, sending me sprawling to the side. They surrounded me, blocking my path completely.
Meanwhile, my mother's face grew increasingly pale. She clutched her chest, her brow furrowed in a look of immense agony.
I knew this was a sign of a heart attack and in our rush to leave earlier, we had forgotten to bring her medication. I tried desperately to shake off the security guards surrounding me, but they held me down tightly.
My mother cried as she struggled to come save me. Seeing this, Corey acted maliciously, deliberately holding his son close as he moved toward her.
Just as my mother stumbled forward, he intentionally let go, dropping his son onto the ground. "Damn it! You old hag! You deliberately knocked me over, trying to kill my newborn baby!"
The frightened baby wailed loudly on the ground.
Corey quickly scooped him up, cradled him protectively and scowled at my mother with utter venom in his eyes. "I never imagined you could be so cruel, not even sparing a defenseless baby. You must have come here to ruin the full-month celebration because your son failed to win over my wife and now you're trying to kill my child out of spite!"
Then, he continued, "Listen here, you old hag. If anything happens to my son, killing both of you wouldn't be enough to make up for it!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he raised his foot and viciously kicked my mother in the chest, sending her crashing into the towering layer cake beside her.
Crash!
The cake instantly collapsed, smashing onto my mother, making her even more miserable.
Hearing Corey's accusations, the crowd around us grew even more outraged, while my mother broke down in tears and tried to explain, "I didn't I didn't knock the baby over. He did it on purpose "
Thud!
Just as she was about to finish her sentence, Corey strode over and kicked her again.
My heart hurt so much when I saw this and I fought desperately to save my mother. "Corey, stop right there! If you dare touch my mother again, I'll make sure you die a horrible death!"
Some distance away, Yvonne heard the disturbance and hurried over in a panic.
I thought she was coming to help my mother, but I was wrong. "Sweetheart, don't scare Mommy like this!"
The child kept crying and each wail seemed to tear at Yvonne's heart. She lifted her eyes and shot a fierce glare at my mother. "Tell me, why would you do such a thing? He's just a baby! You and your son are utterly despicable."
Soon, the commotion started again. "Beat her up! Beat that old witch to death!"
"Yeah, I curse them to have no descendants and may their line end with them!"
The surrounding crowd closed in on my mother, beginning to kick and punch her.
Corey added fuel to the fire, shouting, "Yvonne, protect our son! She will definitely look for another chance to kill him."
My eyes become bloodshot with wrath at his twisted lies. "You despicable man! Don't you dare frame my mother! That child was clearly your "
Before I could finish, he shouted to the security guards nearby. "Guards, grab that old woman! Make her kneel and apologize, swearing a solemn oath!"
"Yes, sir!" The security guards rushed over and dragged my mother, who was on the verge of death, directly to Yvonne.
"Apologize and then swear an oath. Say that if she ever harms my child again, your son, Mark, will be childless forever and die a horrible death," he demanded.
But by now, my mother was in so much pain she couldn't even speak, let alone kneel and swear an oath.
Three minutes later, seeing my mother still curled motionless on the ground, Yvonne flew into a rage.
"Fine, if you won't listen to reason, you'll have to suffer the consequences. Break her hand to prevent future trouble," Yvonne sneered.
"No, Yvonne! Have you forgotten how much my mother loves you?" I screamed. "When you had a cold and fever and I wasn't home, she stayed by your bedside every night to take care of you. You said you wanted to be childless and she had no objections, even though she loves having grandchildren. She just wanted us to be happy."
"But why did you lie? You lied to us about being childless and then used a business trip as an excuse to come to this city and have a child with this man. Yvonne, if you don't have feelings for me, why did you insist on having my mother arrange your marriage to me? Why?" I couldn't help but cry.
"My mother has a heart condition. She didn't tell you because she was afraid that you'd worry. Don't make things difficult for her anymore."
However, she couldn't hear my roars. Her only focus now was Corey and the child in her arms.
She even went as far as to deny our entire relationship, simply because she feared people might misunderstand and hurt Corey.
It was pathetic. Yvonne considered every single detail of that man's feelings. Yet, she never once thought that my mother and I were in actual danger.
Suddenly, someone decided to stand up for Corey. He grabbed a wine bottle, smashed it over my head and kicked me away with such force that I went flying.
For a brief moment, a flicker of concern finally appeared on Yvonne's face, but that worry vanished in less than three seconds.
"Yvonne, don't worry," Corey scorned. "This is just a trick Mark and his mother are playing to get sympathy. She didn't have a heart attack earlier or later, but they chose to say they had one when they threw my son. It's just an excuse to avoid making a solemn vow."
His relatives quickly followed his lead. They swarmed around, blocking Yvonne's path while they began to beat and curse my mother.
My mother was beaten until she lay on the ground, barely breathing and completely motionless. Swallowing my sobs, I crawled toward heronly for Corey to raise his foot and crush my hand beneath it.
"Corey, get out of my way! Yvonne, tell them to stop! My mother's heart attack has relapsed. I need to get her to the hospital immediately."
At that moment, I felt utterly hopeless. If I had known it would end like this, we wouldn't have come. I should have just divorced Yvonne Stanfield.
Sadly, she remained deaf to my cries for help, choosing instead to coax the baby in her arms softly.
Driven by pure hatred, I found the strength to scramble up and land a punch on Corey. Then, I rushed over to lift my mother, but her breathing was so faint that it terrified me. Without a second thought, I carried her onto my back and ran outside.
However, I was in a strange place and the car had run out of gas on the way there. Left with no choice, I had to turn back and beg Yvonne for help.
She happened to chase after me at that moment, calling out, "Honey, I won't hold what happened with your mother against you anymore. But listen to me, I was desperate to have a child with Corey. He saved my father's life and the only way he wanted us to repay that debt was by giving him a child. You take your mother and leave for now and when I get back ... "
"Yvonne!" I interrupted, "My mother is in critical condition! I am only asking you to drive us to the hospital right now!"
Seeing that something was truly wrong with my mother, Yvonne prepared to take us. Alas, Corey stepped out and grabbed her. "It's bad, Yvonne! Our son's head is bleeding. It must have happened when he was dropped earlier!"
With that one sentence, Yvonne immediately abandoned the idea of taking us to the hospital. Instead, she turned a furious glare toward my mother.
"This is all your fault for coming here to cause trouble!" she snapped.
As soon as the words left her mouth, she ran back inside impatiently, leaving us helpless and despairing.
I had no choice but to carry my mother out, suppressing my heartache and grief, pleading for help from passersby. Fortunately, a van driver agreed to take us to the hospital.
Now, I wait by the door of the emergency room, unable to sit still.
After the doctor came out, he told me, "Your mother's heart is failing and the only way to save her is through a heart transplant surgery."
I immediately insisted they perform the transplant. My mother was only fifty; she was still in the prime of her life. I wouldn't let anything happen to her.
Unfortunately, the cost of the heart transplant was far beyond my imagination. Even after taking out all my savings, I was still short by half.
In a panic, I quickly called Yvonne and asked her to find me. Alas, no matter how many times I tried, the call wouldn't go through.
Just as I was losing hope, she video-called me back. As soon as I answered, I saw her sitting on a bed, wearing a sexy lace camisole.
"Honey, is everything okay with you all? Don't overthink it. That child was conceived through artificial insemination. It's absolutely not what you all believe."
At that moment, I couldn't care about anything else. I just begged that woman to hurry to the hospital and help me pay the remaining balance, which was mere pocket change for her.
All this time, since our marriage, I had always spent my own money and never touched hers.
Noticing the background behind me, Yvonne realized I was in the hospital and grew worried. "Honey, what exactly happened?"
As she stood up, her revealing nightgown shifted, revealing things that shouldn't be.
I let out a bitter laugh and turned my head away, struggling to contain my rage. Because she was currently at Corey's home and the wedding photo hanging behind her was undeniable proof.
"I'll transfer the money to you right now via my phone," she exclaimed.
Just as she reached for it, a shirtless Corey walked into the room.
Yvonne quickly stepped away from the computer, but he caught her and pulled her into his arms. "Yvonne, are you really leaving tomorrow?"
She chuckled, "Yes, because I have to go home. I've kept my promise to you."
"But can you really bear to leave?" Corey said as he reached out to caress her skin, stirring her desire and causing her to lose all sense of direction.
At that point, Yvonne completely forgot that the video call with me was still connected.
I could hear that man whisper seductively, "Don't you want to be intimate with me one last time before you go?"
Under Corey's seduction, Yvonne gradually succumbed. She took the initiative, hooking her arms around his neck and kissing him passionatelythe classic behavior of a woman driven by lust.
Watching from behind the screen, I clenched my fists as a fire of humiliation consumed me. Unable to watch any longer, I shut off the phone.
It was at that exact moment when the doctor rushed over to inform me that my mother had taken her own life. She had voluntarily removed her oxygen tube to avoid being a burden to me.
The doctor also told me that her ultimate goal was to buy back our family property after it had been pawned.
I collapsed onto her bed, sobbing as I held her lifeless body.
Three days later, I returned to the city carrying her ashes.
When I got back, I heard from headquarters that I would be taking over a project my coworker had botched. If I could successfully complete it, I would receive a two-million-dollar bonus.
For the sake of my mother's dying wish, I worked myself to the bone, going without sleep to finish it.
At that same time, Yvonne also returned to the company, bringing Corey with her. By then, the scandal between us had already become a topic of heated gossip.
Yvonne eventually found me and tried to hug me while apologizing. "Mark, I'm back. I know I've wronged you, so as an apology, I've established a large department store named 'Marvyn' as a gift for you. Please, stop being angry with me, okay?"
I immediately pushed her away, then turned and left with the iciest gaze. My only focus was completing the project, getting the bonus, redeeming the old house and leaving.
Seeing my coldness, Yvonne tried every method imaginable to win me back, following me everywhere I went.
After struggling for an entire week, I finally completed the project. Exhausted beyond measure, my eyes refused to stay open and I fell asleep right there at my desk.
When I woke up, I discovered that my project proposal had vanished. Just as I was searching for it in a frantic panic, I found Corey in the meeting room, using my hard work to sign a contract with the project partners.
Infuriated, I rushed forward and knocked him down with a single punch, but security guards quickly restrained me and threw me out of the room.
Corey stubbornly insisted the project was his, so he naturally took the bonus meant for me.
Just as I was about to beat up that despicable man again, Yvonne stepped in and protected him. "Stop making trouble, Mark. It's only two million. If he wants it, then let him have it."
"Come with me. The department store has already been built. We're just waiting for the opening ceremony three days from now." She forcibly took me to see the department store named after our name, Marvyn.
But when I got there, I saw Corvyn Co. Department Store instead.
I let out a bitter laugh, took two steps back and left the place in loneliness and despair. Behind me, Yvonne panicked and called out for me to come back, but I would never turn around again.
This time, my heart was completely dead. I was determined to leave and build my career in someone else's city.
When Yvonne could not find me anywhere, her heart sank into utter panic.
Just as she was feeling extremely anxious, her father woke up and called her. "Yvonne! You must properly thank Mark on my behalf! If it weren't for him saving me, I would have died long ago. You really have good judgment to choose such a man."
